My Story

Hi, my name is Lorrie and I have been creating my entire life.  Ten years ago when I sewed my first Handbag using cork and metal hardware,  the light bulb went on.....'I can actually make bags like this? And with sustainable material like cork!' WOW!  I was hooked.  I created bags as a hobby first, then began teaching bag-making to others, and now as a retired Realtor, I have started my full time business, 'Gypsy Girl Handbags'. 

I live in a small village in a tiny house with my husband, daughter (26 yrs) and the cat, Lucy.  I have had several careers over the years including a successful business with my Mom in the 80's & 90's, being in the fashion industry,  a marketing sales coordinator and a Realtor for the past 14 years.  But sewing has been my absolute passion.

When I create a bag, I think of functionality first. A handbag has a big job to do, whether it's a larger bag in order to carry all those things for work and family, to carrying just the essentials securely in a cross body purse, or a compact wallet for all your cards, etc.  Aside from it's functionality. I love to play with colour and textures and try to put some fun into the functionality. I feel your bag speaks volumes about your personality. 

I enjoy the entire process of creating bags and accessories for you by personally hand crafting each piece in my studio.
